GIVE OTHERS A CHANCE.
TROPHY MAY GO ON TOUR. At the dinner given by the A.F.A. on Saturday night to Wellington and Auckland rep. teams, Mr. Menzies, chairman, in the course of his introductory remarks referred to the fact that Auckland had held the F.A. trophy since its inception in 1926. He thought it was time now to give some of the other i provinces a chance to win the premieriship. He recognised that the holding of such an emblem of supremacy gave a great stimulus to the game in whatever centre it was held. Auckland had tried to get Canterbury and Otago up this year, but without result, and Wellington had challenged twice. Auckland had proved its superiority beyond dispute, and he thought it would be a good plan if, next season, Auckland could go on tour with the trophy, playing each of the three main centres for possession. Mr. J. Coleman, Wellington manager, after referring to the very fine sportsmanship Auckland had shown in inviting Wellington to make a second attempt to take from them the F.A. trophy, assured the gathering that his centre next season meant to win the premiership of the Dominion. It would, however, be in keeping with the reputation the northern association held as sports to take the course suggested by the chairman. Mr. Coleman, in conclusion, paid a generous compliment to the A.F.A. for the hospitality always shown visiting teams.
