LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
ENGLISH OFFERS. OVERTURES TO PRENTICE. HIGH TERMS REJECTED. English Rugby League clubs are still eagerly angling for outstanding League player's in New Zealand, and persistent efforts to get the services of Prentice, the well-known Richmond Club, Auckland and New Zealand International representative, have so far failed. Recently Prentice was approached by the agent of Wigan Club, but, after rejecting the overtures, the player agreed to submit his own terms which, it is known, were somewhat ambitious. Much to the surprise of the Richmond five-eighths, he received a cable yesterday as follows: "Agreed to terms. Booking passage Botorua. Sail October 12. Reply allright. Urgent." Speaking to a reporter this afternoon, Prentice said he made his terms "pretty high" and did not except that they would be accented. However, lie finds that he is unable to make suitable arrangements to get away, f-nd is cabling a direct reply to that effect. The news that Prentice will not be zoing away will meet with wide npnroval mi Auckland, and particularly with the Richmond Club, which recently lost a °ood player in Trevor Hanlon. who was induced to go to England to join Broughton Rangers.
