CYCLING CLASSIC.

HAMILTON-AUCKLAND RACE. TWENTY-SIX ON ROAD. FAST TIMES EXPECTED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. The annual cycle race from Hamilton to Auckland, a distance of 82 miles, for the North Island road cycling championship, is being held to-day. Of 28 riders who entered 20 were dispatched from the Post Office this morning on their long ride. This year's race was promoted by the Auckland Cycle Club. The number of entries is thought disappointing, but the whole field engaged in the championship is rich in quality, every man being particularly tit. The limit men, with a start of 42m, Whyte and McDonald, were sent away at 10.18 by the Mayor, Mr. J. R. Fow. There was a keen south-west wind, with bright sunshine. A large crowd assembled at tli3 starting point and cheered the riders as they left. Bellringer, of New Plymouth, who won the race last year, started alone from scratch at noon, and should be up near the 8m group about Ngaruawahia. The roads are in better order than ever, with over half the distance either bituminised or concreted, so last year's times should be improved on. Excellent, arrangements were made by the officials of the club for the control of the championship. Feeding and checking stations were provided at Huntly, Te Kauwhata, Mercer and Papakura. The course is slightly different. Today the riders will take the "Razorback" route. At Otahuhu they will branch off at the war memorial, going through Mangere Central, to finish at the Onehunga Recreation Ground. The superintendent of to-day's race is Mr. H. Edwards, and judges, Messrs. E. Morton (Mayor of Onehunga), and W. Curtis. The riders and handicaps are:—N. Whyte (Auckland), J. McDonald (Auckland). 42m; J. Jacob (Auckland)," G. Hall (Auckland), K. Rae (Auckland), F. Lowndes (Auckland), W. Archer (Auckland), 34m; C. Slack (Papakura), R. Clarke (Papakura), 32m; D. Aberhart (Whakatane), N. Healey (Auckland). W. Hills (Auckland). 30m; P.
