PROVINCIAL NEWS.
OTOROHANGA. The Otorohanga County Council met on Tuesday, Councillor F; Potts in the chair. The secretary of the Te Kau-a-Moa Settlers' Association wrote asking the council to apply for a grant to widen the main road at the 14-mile peg from Pirongia; also asking expedition in the building of a bridge to Lorenz and Smith's farm at Te Bau-a-Moa. It was stated that it was too late this year to apply, as the estimates closed two months ago, but the council decided to write Mr, W. J. Broadfoot, suggesting that men could be put on relief works to carry out the work.
In the course of a discussion on the recent Highways Conference fears were expressed that the inspectors appointed would concentrate on the good roads in the Waikato. The chairman pointed out that the inspectors would have separate areas to work'in, and the county engineer said that the inspectors would save on maintenance, «nd the county would get traffic fees and licenses. It was decided to support the resolutions carried at the recent conference, and to suggest that the inspectors of the group Otorohanga County is in remain under the supervision of the Main Highways Board. Councillor TV. Bluck, the chairman, the county clerk 'and the county engineer were appointed to represent the county at the next conference in about six weeks' time. It Was decided to proceed with the work of formation and metalling of the first half-mile of the Awataue Road at Kio Kio, further extensions through native land to he arranged for subject to settlers consenting.
It was decided to write to the Main Highways Board urging that relief workers be placed on the new deviation between Otorohanga and Hangatiki, so as to complete this important worK.
