LATE MR. J. D. CHALMERS.

FUNERAL AT WAIUKU,

Probably one of the largest funerals ever seen at Waiuku was that of the late Mr. J. D. Chalmers. Scores of cars filled with mourners followed his remains to the grave, every part of the wide district being fully represented. Among those present were: Mr. W. Wallace, chairman of the Hospital Board, and Mrs. Kidd, Messrs. E. H. Potter, J. Dempsey, John Rowe, Revs. W. C. Wood and W. K. Howitt, members of the board, also Mr. H. A. Sommerville, secretary, Mr. A. Herbert Jones, chief relieving officer, and Mr. Brown, architect of the board. Drs. Maguire and McKelvey were also among the mourners. There were many floral wreaths, including one from the nurses at the Hospital Infirmary and the local hospital at Waiuku. The Rev. Spiers, Presbyterian minister, conducted the service at the house and at the graveside. The Masonic service was also conducted at the grave. The deceased had been a justice of the peace for many years and many justices travelled long distances to be present yesterday. Bowlers were present from all parts of the wide district.
