MAINTENANCE ARREARS.
CLAIM BY DIVORCED WIFE
LARGE SUM INVOLVED,

GISBORNE, this day.
Arrested at Taihape for arrears amounting to £830 in respect of a maintenance order made in Australia in 1921, Oswald Clarence Tulk (38) appeared before tho Police Court this morning, charged with failing to comply with an order for the maintenance of his former wife (by whom he was divorced two years ago) and three children. Accused pleaded that he was unable to pay anything and asked for a reduction of the arrears, having a second wife and one child to maintain in New Zealand. He had left complainant with a house full of furniture and a war bonus of £130. She 'then seemed satisfied with that and was agreeable to him coming to New Zealand. No claim .for arrears had been made till now.
The 'magistrate ordered payment of 7/6 a week on account of arrears and said defendant could later apply for variation of the order.
