The three-year-old trotter Fairyland, by Guy Parrish from Dreamland, is at present having a short spell (says a Dunedin writer). She will resume work in about a month and be prepared for the New Zealand Sires' Produce Stakes, the only classic event for trotters in the Dominion. Mr. A. C. Mercer, of Christcliurch, recently purchased from Mr. G. J. Barton the three-year-old colt by Cathedral Chimes —Marie Lloyd, and the youngster has gone into J. Bryce's stable. This gelding claims engagements in the Great Northern Derby, to be run at Christmas time, and the Melbourne Derby, to be decided in March. If he continues to improve, it is likely that he will fulfil his Australian engagements. The Greymouth Trotting Club has made application to the New Zealand Trotting Association for permission to have the following condition included in the programme for its meeting to be held on October 2G and 28: "That performances of horses registered before August 1, 1929, will not affect tlieir eligibility to the races, notwithstanding the conditions attached to such races." The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club has in the past experienced some difficulty in securing good-sized fields for its fast class trotters' races, and has decided on some little alteration in the conditions. In the Dominion Handicap the conditions previously stated that the race was for horses that had clone, or had been handicapped to do, 4.35 or better, but now the race is for horses that can do 4.35 or better, while the mile and a-lialf races are for horses that can do 3.32 or better, not '"'for horses that can do 3.32 and have not done 3.32 or better j or its equivalent over a longer distance."]
