GIVEN A CHANCE.
THEFT AND RECEIVING. WATERSIDER GETS PROBATION. Charged with stealing 51b of butter and a leg of mutton valued at 12/6, and with receiving three singlets worth 10/6, belonging to the New Zealand Shipping Co., Thomas Joseph Glover (24), appeared for sentence at the Police Court this morning. Mr. P. K. Hunt, S.M., said he had received a. report from the Probation Officer about Glover. "He has a wife and family, but has not been attending to them. He's been drinking," said the magistrate. Mr. Hunt placed_ accused on twelve months' strict probation, and ordered him to take out a prohibition order forthwith.
