POISON LIQUOR.

WEEK-END SPREE. Most Deadly " Epidemic" In New York. 18 DEAD, 60 IN HOSPITAL. (United Service.) (Received 2 p.m.) NEW YORK, October 8. Pplice are searching for the source of poison liquor in the dock district of the city while ambulances are still removing dead and dying from that section after one of the most deadly week-ends on record. Eighteen are at present dead in the morgues, while over 60 were received in the hospitals during the last 24 hours. Recent attempts by the police to suppress the more disreputable "speakeasies" have resulted in an increase of privately made "smoke," composed of raw alcohol cut with water, coloured with iodine and creosote and sold at ten cents a drink.
