LAST DAY OF PARLIAMENT.
DATE OF THE ELECTION. ANNOUNCEMENT TO-MORROW. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The finale of the 1926-28 Parliament of New Zealand was staged to-day, when the session flickered to its close amid scenes of jollity tempered by sober thoughts of the coming general election. The early part of the forenoon sitting was occupied with a discussion of Parliamentary papers. The Prime Minister said that the regrading of Post and Telegraph officers would take place next year. Replying to the Leader of the Opposition, the Prime Minister promised to announce in the Press to-morrow the date of the general election. "Why not tell us now and speed the parting guest?" asked Mr. Howard. "That's just the reason why I cannot," replied Mr. Coates, anxious to keep a quorum until Parliament completes its work. «•
