LATEST POSTAL METHODS.

N. 2. OFFICER FOR AUSTRALIA. DISTRICT ENGINEERS TO CONFER. The assistant-secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department, Mr. J. Robertson, leaves for Sydney by the Niagara. His mission is to inspect and report on the methods of postal work in Sydney and Melbourne, and in particular to report on the new mail carrier system for letters and parcels which has- been installed in the new post office in Melbourne. It is an endless conveyor belt, running from floor to floor. The headquarters of the Department has convened a conference of district telegraph engineers for Tuesday. It is the policy of the Department to call its engineers together from time to time, so that every man with district responsibility will be posted with all the latest devices in use, and made acquainted with the most efficient methods.
