TAUPO.
A dance in aid of the Anglican Church building fond was held here under the management of the Maori branch- of the congregation. Mesdames Reid -and Otene took the management. They also ran a stall in the hall and the gross proceeds were about £47. This being the first effort of the native members of the church, they are to be congratulated in establishing a record. The building committee have about £250 in hand, nearly half the amount required for the new church. A special meeting of the board was held on Wednesday to consider the new by-faws. They run into over 100 pages of typed foolscap. At present we are at the mercy of free lance motor carriers, unlicensed hawkers, wandering stock, cheap than ties, and what are commonly known as Rafferty rules. The new laws will make for the better government of the town and will make the village more attractive than ever. The by-laws will be further considered and adopted later on.
