COSTLY IMPULSE.
PRISONER WHO ESCAPED. ABUSED A PRIVILEGE. WELLINGTON, this day. The prisoner, Lowry, who escaped from the Wi Tako prison, Trentham, on August 29, and was recaptured on Friday, said his escape was unpremeditated. It was done on the impulse of the moment, he told the magistrate to-day. He had a chance of escape and he took it. He was going out on a working party and complained of sore feet, and was given the privilege of taking a short cut. The bush was handy and he took to it. While at large he committed a burglary for food and clothing.
He will now serve an additional three months.
