ANTARCTIC EXPLORERS.

fAEY RADIO TESTS.

NEW ZEALANDER CO-OPERATING.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

GISBORNE, this day.

The inauguration of the weekly programmes of wireless messages from members of the Byrd Antarctic Expedition, at present aboard the base ship City of New York, en route to Dunedin, took place yesterday afternoon, the Pittsburg station KDKA being occupied over two hours in reading messages and greetings from all parts of the World to the explorers.

Throughout the broadcast, Messrs. Robert Patty (station 2AE, Gisborne) and Alex Reid (station 2BE, Montreal), amateur operators, stood by to check the results. of transmission, Mr. Reid reporting direct to the organiser, Mr. George A. Wendt, of the Canadian Westinghouse Company. KTtK*, which has dropped its wave-length to 25.5 metres, was heard distinctly from early afternoon, and the initial vocal broadcast was considered highly satisfactory. Subsequently Mr. Wendt spoke from KDKA, and intimated that the programmes would be continued weekly. He acknowledged a report received from Mr. Patty and expressed appreciation of the assistance given by him in the preliminary tests.
