PAINTER'S BANKRUPTCY.
LEGAL DISPUTES OVER WILL.
ORDERED TO PAY 15/ IN THE POUND. Legal disputes and litigation over a will were the main causes given for his bankruptcy by Neville Patrick John Meelian, painter, of 15, England Street. Ponsonbv, when he met bis creditors this morning. Mr. G. N. Morris, Official ■Assignee, presided. Bankrupt's, schedule showed that his total debts were £168 10/1, and his assets £108, leaving a deficiency of £60 10/1. He owed £34 2/7 to unsecured creditors and' £1434 7/6 to those secured. The estimated value of securities wa9 placed at £1300, which showed a deficit of £134 7/6. According to bankrupt's written statement there bad been legal disputes and litigation over his deceased wife's will, and of which his mother-in-law was the sole executrix. Meehan stated that he was at present employed at £4 19/ per week, and was keeping bis little daughter. He had been unable to pay his debts because of judgments having been issued against him. and he was unable to offer his creditors anything. Under examination he admitted he was paying £3 per week to bis own mother for board, and she was looking after his child. Cross-examination elicited the information that at the end of four weeks and provided he was still in his present position, he would pay £1 per week to his creditors. It was finally decided that bankrupt's discharge should be opposed till he had paid 15/ in the pound at the rate'of £1 per week.
