AMERICANISED SYDNEY.

BUSINESS NOT BRISK.

HUGH WRIGHTS OBSERVATIONS

Mr. Hugh Wright, who returned by the Ulimaroa this morning after spending a month in Sydney; states thai clothing is dearer in New South Wales than in New Zealand. He attributed this to the tariff, which is lower in the Dominion. "Small as we are," said Mr. Wright, "we hold our own in styles."

Referring to trade generally Mr. Wright stated that business men were complaining bitterly in the Commonwealth of the slackness of business during the winter. As far as appearances went Sydney was a fast, quick business city going ahead on American lines. He spoke enthusiastically in regard to transport methods. The trams and buses were working remarkably well. There was a line of buses running from ai' directions and depositing their loads at the railway station. From the point of efficiency he had never seen anything better.
