HIS OWN NUMBER.
MODEL YACHT ART UNION.
WINNER DRAWS HIS OWN" TICKET.
An ait union for a model yacht pre•ented to the Akarana Yacht Club by Mr. G. Miller, of Devonport, was drawn last evening at the Chamber of Commerce, and had a unique sequel.* The drawing took place under police supervision and in the presence of representatives of the Press, members of the committee and one outsider, who at the •uggestion of the chairman was requested to draw the marbles.
After Detectivo R. Watersou had checked all bags and numbered marbles, the gentleman in question (Mr. C. Cavanagh) was requested to act, the method of drawing one marble from five separate bags being explained to him. In succession, beginning with units, the marbles making 11,858, wero duly drawn, and on reference by the hon. treasurer to his books it was found that this number stood in Mr. Cavanagh's name. Needless to say, nobody was more surprised tian he was. Mr. Cuvanagh said that he had been given a book of 20 tickets to sell, and bad placed all but the last three, which hp took for himself. The book contained tickets numbered 11,841 to 11,860. It was the first ticket of Mr. Cavanagh's three which proved to be the lucky one.
Needlese to say he was pleased with the result, and the first to congratulate him was the police representative present •t the drawing.
