PRICES HOLD WELL.

SEVERAL ADVANCES RECORDED.

Better prices were offered for a number of lines on 'Change this week and a fair amount of business -vras done. Bank shares generally showed an upward tendency. National Bank of Australasia paid shares sold at £19 5/, and for the contributing issue £0 11/ could be got. New Zealand National Bank shares sold at £7 6/, and afterwards an extra 6d was offered. Commercial Bank ordinary shares had transactions at £1 10/9. Further business was done in Bank of New Zealand shares at £3 1/3 and buyers still offer £3 1/. E.S. and A. Bank shares are now wanted at £8 16/, but sellers ask £9. Bank of New South Wales shares were offered yesterday at £51 10/, but buyers stopped at 2/6 under that figure, "Bank of Australasia shares could be placed at £15 and Union Banks at £15 5/ . More business was done in insurance shares this week. New Zealands sold at £2 5/3 and £2 5/4, buyers still offering £2 5/. Several sales were made of Queensland Insurance shares at £3 5/, which price is still obtainable. Sales were again made of South British Insurance at £3 3/, and inquiry was made yesterday for Standard Insurance shares at £3 3/6. Buyers of United Insurance shares advanced their offers to £11 2/, without sales resulting.

Farmers' Auctioneering ordinary shares firmed this week, buyers offering £2 17/0, but there were no sellers. Business was dome in Golddbrough, Mart shares at £2 11/0, and inquiry was made yesterday for National Mortgage at £4. Gear Meat shares are in steady demand at £2 If, with no sellers, and Farmers' Fertiliser are in regular request at £4 6/.

Colonial Sugar Refining shares could now be sold ut £62 15/ and yesterday at the third call a seller came in at £64. New Zealand Breweries debentures had several sales at £1 4/4, and for the shares £2 14/9 was offered at the third call yesterday. Kempthorne, Prosser Drug shares were offered yesterday afternoon -at £3 12/, but buyers only quoted £3 10/. Union Oil firmed 6d, being wanted at £2 ,2/0. Hay wards" Pictures had several sales at £1, and buyers still offer that rate.

P. and O. deferred stock sold at £240, but other shipping lines were somewhat neglected. Auckland Gas contributing shares sold at 17/3 and for the paid-up issue £1 3/4 was paid. Kaiapoi Woollen ordinary shares sold at 13/, and for Wellington Woollen preference issue £6 12/6 could now be got. Sanfords' preference shares had sales at £1, and Whittome, Stevenson shares were transferred at £2 8/. Buyers of Wilsons Cement offer £1 18/6, but latterly sellerb have not quoted. Farmers' Trading ordinary shares had a transaction at 7/6. Several sales were made of shares in coal companies. Hikurangi ordinary issue sold at 5/7 and Renowns at 13/ and 13/1. Taupiri Coal were placed at £1 6/6, which price could still be got. Waihi shares had good sales at the third call yesterday. Earlier in the week business was done in this line at 13/, then 13/2 and 13/5 was paid, but yesterday afternoon sales were made at 13/6, 13/9, and 13/8. Mt. Lyells were also firmer, sales taking place at £1 16/. Ohinemuri Mines were placed at 7/6. Premiums are offered for a number of 6 per cent debentures. Mount Eden Borough could be placed at £102 10/, Hamilton Loan at £102, Auckland Harbour at £103 and Hamilton Fire Board, Auckland Fire Board and pevonport Borough 6 per cent debentures are all wanted at £101. The 4% per cent War Loan, 1939, sold at £99, and that price could also be got for the loan maturing in 1930. Soldiers' 5% per cent inscribed loan sold yesterday at £101 2/6. Auckland Hospital 5% per cent loan is offered at £101 10/ and buyers quote £99. For Auckland Gas 6% per cent debentures £102 is now offered. ,
