MOUNT WELLINGTON
At ths l:wt meeting of the llmnt Wellington Road Board., the ciuih. m (?.Jr. G. Kay i presiding, a. scheme juan of subdivisions of a number of properties in the Woek lying between Mont)t Wellington Highway and Barrack Uoad was submitted by Mr. E. V. Blake. It v.-as stated that the scheme -would .shorten the length of the new roads, •which are to be made fcy 85 chains, as compared with the plana- already in the board's possession, and. in addition to providing over four acres move recreation reserves, would givo the various owners 21- extra building sections. It was decided to invite tho owners concerned to inspect the plan v.'ith a vi~vr to securing adoption of the solieme for permanent subdivision. ■

BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH COUNCIL. TTie fortnightly meeting of the Birkenhead Borough Couneil was held last even in?. The Mayor (Mr. E. G. Skeates) pre■ided. Water.—The Mayor stated that the committee appointed to\deal with- the tenders for the siy-inch and "four-inch mai'urt, to be iisod in the extension of the Water ».iipply reticulation, for which a loan of £:">230 was raised, had accepted landers conditionally.
.Museum ■ Upkeep.—The attitude of the Birkenhead Oouncil towards the ev>mpul-, sorj- levy for tJie maintenance ot the Auckland War Memorial Museum Was canvassed by Mr, A. Harris, M.P. The Mayor etatod that a reply had beau sent that'the feeling of the council was that the required amount, could be raised by kn admission charge to the tmieauin. instead o: the propositi levy. "The council had expressed its willingness to consider the bill in'r-onjiiuction with the'other North Shore locai bodies. This reply was endorsed.
Beach Road.—Seven tenders were received for earthwork cotfiiectcnl with the rpgradinjr of the upper end of Beach Road. That of Messrs. Stevenson Bros., of Albany, at. £ 125, was; accepted. New Buildings.—Five building permits ■were granted.
