A SHORT SITTING.

ARBITRATION COURT.

FREEZING WORKS DISPUTE.

VISIT TO HAMILTON

The quarterly session of the Auckland Arbitration Court, which commenced under the presidency of Mr. Justice Frazer this morning, will be of singularly brief duration. Actual business will be taken on Thursday next, when several compensation cases will be heard, and the Court will rise on the following Thursday, after considering the Freezing Works' Dominion dispute. In between times the bench will sandwich in a visit to Hamilton. The most important business of the session concerns the freezing industry, an unusual departure having been made by the Court in deciding to consider an application for a Dominion award in Auckland. Wellington and Christchurch are the regular centres for hearing major disputes. In the present case the employers are taking the initiative and have cited the workers as parties to the award, the old agreement having expired in June last. In conciliation at Wellington recently, however, not a single settlement was ar-' rived at in regard to the various proposals made. On Friday next various small applications under the Apprenticeship Act will occupy the attention of the Court. The bulk of the remainder of the business relates to claims brought under the Workers' Compensation Act. The list of fixtures made this morning is as follows:— Thursday, September 27, 10 a.m.— Good v. Birkenhead and Nortlicote Gas Company; 2.15 p.m., Verella v. Auckland Bottle Company. Friday, September 28,10 a.m.—Apprenticeship matters, followed by tallymen's dispute. Monday, October I.—Hamilton. Tuesday, October 2, 10 a.m.—Walker v. Endean; Birchall v. Auckland City Council; 2.15, Corcoran v. Alexander, compensation claims. Wednesday, October 3, 10 a.m.— Haller v. th* W. G. Armstrong, Whitworth Company, Limited; 2.15 p.m., Porola v. W. G. Armstrong, Whitworth Company, Limited, and Devich v. Barbarich and another. Thursday—Freezing Works' Dominion dispute.
