INDUSTRY’S AID.
FULL ECONOMY. Importance Of Technology Stressed. BRITISH REPORT. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 23. The National Fuel and Power Committee, which was appointed bv the Board of Trade under the chairmanship of Lord Melchct (formerly Sir Alfred Mond), yesterday published its report. This recommends the industrial leaders in the fuel-producing ad fuel-consump-tion industries to consider the need for co-operation with the universities, by indicating the responsible positions that are open on the executive side of their business for men trained in fuel technology. The report says the Board of Education should also consider what might be done in institutions supervised by it to contribute to training men with the desired qualifications. The iron and steel industry should give greater support to its Fuel Economy Committee, both by providing it with sufficient funds, and by actively co-operating in its work, by placing at its disposal all necessary information concerning new or improved practice, and by referring to it in all cases of difficulty. All the la rge coal -consuming industries should consider the desirability of adopting on a much larger scale than at present the practice of the exchange of experience in fuel technology, if possible through central associations financed by small levies. The large consumers are advised to pay more attention to the system of buying and selling coal to specification, and colliery owners are advised to classify their coal as far as possible according to some agreed standards.
