SERIOUS LANDSLIDE.
Mighty Fall Of Earth At Isle Of Wight. FAMOUS BEAUTY SPOT BURIED. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) LONDON, September 23. A serious landslide has occurred at the Isle of Wight. A million and ahalf tons of rock and earth from a cliff covering an area of half a square mile between Blackgang Chine and Niton broke away. The drive at Undercliff, a famous beauty spot, at Ventnor, was buried. An area of 60 acres of land is now gradually moving toward the sea. No houses are involved in the landslide.
V entnor, Isle of Wight, is a beautiful seaside resort with a subtropical climate and luxuriant vegetation. Undercliff provides charming walks, and the town is a gay modern resort. Blackgang Chine is much visited from Ventor, which has a standing population of about 7000.
