American Official Disappears After Friction. PICTURE UNION SECRETARY. (United Service.) NEW YORK, September 23. The police at Detroit fear that Mr. Arthur Ruben, secretary of the Motion Picture Operators’ Union—one of the strongest labour organisations in the c ’ty has been killed by kidnappers. He was abducted from his office on Friday. Mr. Ruben had been actively engaged in a factional fight within the ranks of the union, in which a private detective agency was involved. He went to his office under the protection of an armed guard, but eight armed men entered and forced his staff of 20 members to hold up their hands. The intruders then carried Mr. Ruben away presumably to his death.
