“SMITHY’S” FLAG STOLEN.

MAYOR APPEALS FOR RETURN. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, this day. On “Smithy’s” car at the landing grounds at Westmere yesterday was a tattered Australian flag which he had brought with him across the Tasman. During the crush when the car was leaving the grounds someone stole it. Like his mascot, a black cat, which went missing in Christchurch, but was returned, the airman cherished the flag, and is now very anxious to have it returned.

The Mayor has appealed to the person who took the flag to return it.
