FAST TRIP TO HAWERA.
ARRIVAL AT WANGANUI. AIRMEN GREETED AT WESTMERE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, this day. - Flying at an average speed of over 100 miles an hour, the three Bristol Fighter ’planes reached Hawera at 2.10 p.m. yesterday from Auckland. They completed the flight in Ih 40m. Leaving Hawera at 3.45 p.m., the machines were at Westmere, Wanganui, at 4.10 p.m., having taken £5 minutes for the 50 miles.
A following wind accounted for the fast trip to Hawera. The time was 30 I minutes less than that taken bv the I ’planes in flying from Hawera to Auckland.
A large crowd greeted SquadronLeader Kingsford Smith and his companions, when they made a perfect landing on the Westmere racecourse. Aftei - being accorded a civic reception they were motored to their hotel, and at their request they had no public engagement to fulfil.
