LEFT FOR SOUTH TO-DAY.

STRONG WESTERLY GALE BLOWING.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

WANGANUI, this day.

The airmen left Westmere at 11.5 a.m. to-day for Blenheim. The weather was very boisterous and a strong westerly gale was blowing. About 3000 people journeyed to the racecourse to witness the take-off, which was successfully accomplished in spite of a shifty wind, which blew with great force at times.

The ’planes circled over the city before heading south.
