PUBLICAN WARNED.
■ * LIQUOR SOLD AFTER HOURS. _____ H « WORRIED BT SAILORS." FINE OF £10 IMPOSED. "This is a most unfortunate case, my client having been worried by two men to supply liquor," sard Mr. L. J. Stevens, who appeared for Albert Edward Neville, licensee of the Alexandra Hotel, at the Police Court tihis morning. Defendant pleaded guilty to a charge of having kept his premises open for the sale of liquor after hours. "Eventually, to get rid of the two men he sold them two bottles of beer," added counsel. "Rather than have much argument with them, he just fell in." The Magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt: He's fallen in a few times before, if I remember rightly. Mr. Stevens: His hotel is situated in a locality where there is considerable difficulty. He would not have taken the risk for 2/. Mr. Hunt: They do it all day long. It is not for the sake of the 2/, it is to keep their customers. . r, '"Sub-Inspector McCarthy *£td that a policeman had observed two s-iftn-s enter the hotel. They were accosted on coming out again. Defendant'' had been caught in the act. However, as counsel had stated, his hotel was in rather a difficult locality to handle and he had not been before the Court for 18 months. Since then there had been no complaints about the hotel. "What was he fined the last time?" asked the magistrate. The sub-inspector replied that Neville was fined £15 and costs on the last occasion he came before the Court. "Well, I will fine him £10 and I won't endorse his license because he has been frank. He has saved £10 by pleading guilty. If he comes before the Court again, I'll endorse his license, if I 'hear the case."
