BURGLARIES IN SUBURBS.
INTRUDER MISSES A "ROIX." THIEVES AFTER MONEY. Householders ' should know that recently a good deal of petty thieving of a burglarious kind is prevalent in some of the suburbs. One case occurred at Grey Lynn and • few evenings ago a daring intrusion was made at Heme Bay. The owners arrived home at 9.30 p.m., and when • light was switched on a man opened • front room window and bolted. The flat in which he had been operating was completely ransacked, clothes, household articles and furnishings being pitched about in ruthless fashion. When disturbed the thief was very close to finding a substantial roll of notes which had been hidden in a wardrobe drawer. The removal of two more garments would have disclosed the money, which appears to be the sole object of suburban burglaries lately reported. In the Heme Bay instance the man had also taken precautions to have two other windows open and the back door unlocked in order to make a good getaway in the event of surprise, but his unavailing search had taken him to a front room, from which he was compelled to make the hasty exit mentioned.
