(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

WELLINGTON, Thursday.

The net earnings of the New Zealand Railways in the four weeks which ended on August were £36,031, as compared with £6419 a year ago.

The gross revenue from all services increased by £33,704, while expenses were £4002 higher.

The working profits for the 20 weeks of this financial year are £13,142 lesc than for the corresponding period last year, but if the improvement shown in the last three months is maintained this deficiency will soon be overtaken.
