THIEVES IN THE NIGHT.

VISIT TO EDEN PARK.

REFRESHMENT STALL RAIDED.

ATTEMPT ON PAVILION.

| Practically the whole stocks of tobacco, cigarettes and chewing-gum were taken by thieves who broke into the refreshment booth at Eden Park last night. A number of bottles of soft drinks are also gone, but the owner, Mrs. A. Langton, is unable to say exactly what her losses are at present. Th<4 thieves first attacked the pavilion, gaining entrance through a window. As all the inside doors were locked, they were unable to search the place. After splintering several doors they went to the refreshment stall, a small wooden building on the opposite side of the ground. By forcing open one of the shutters in the front, they gained an entrance and completely ransacked the stock. There were indications to show that the thieves took away as much as their arms could carry, as a bottle of soft drink was found where they had dropped it half-way across the ground.

On the counter of the shop the visitors left a badly-bent screwdriver and half of a wrench. A valuable tablecloth, which was the only thing taken from the pavilion, was also left behind. Mrs. Langton states that her losses were much heavier than would normally have been the case, as there was a comparatively small crowd at the park last Saturday. She has suffered heavily from the depredations of petty burglars, the stalls having been broken into on several occasions. The present stall was only recently built, and was particularly strongly constructed in the hope of protecting the stock.
