THE BELFAST RIOTS.
CONFERENCE PROCEEDING.
(By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.)
LONDON, August 15. A conference is being held at Belfast to arrange for a settlement of the strike trbubles, and is progressing satisfactorily.
I Mr. Grayson (Socialist member for the Colne Valley Division of Yorkshire), in a letter to the " Times," gays that his speech at Huddersfield was misreported. Referring to the terrible incidents in Belfast, he says he remarked that the fight was a most unequal one, since one side had military training, ball cartridge, gatlings, and bayonets, while on the other side there were only broken bottles. His statement was a very different thing from that attributed to him.
[The H Star " heading on Tuesday indicated that Mr. Grayson's remark that if the people were without 5 shrapnel they had broken bottles to throw, was ironical. Members of the House of Commons appear to have taken it seriously.]
