DYNAMITE IN COAL.
EXPLOSION IN A STOVE AT DEVON. PORT.
A Devonport housewife received some, thing of a surprise and had a fortunate escape from accident on Saturday mM n! ing. Mrs Evans, wife of Mr John Evai* of Albert-road, Devonport, had just re! plenished the fire in the kitchen stove with a shovelful of coal when a. terrific explosion blew the stove to pieces, and scattering the fragments all over the room, did a considerable amount of damage. Mrs Evans was struck on-the left arm and leg, and was also burned on the arms and legs through her clotiino. An examination of the coal in. tie coak shed yesterday resulted in the discover? of a small box, containing dynamite capt and it is therefore plain that the expta sion was caused by dynamite. Mr Evans states that the dynamite must have been. in the coal when it came frqm the mine no dynamite ever being taken into the 1 premises.
