Sail w-as again- reduced, and. the foresail split up while being lowered.. ' The vessel was kept before ther pit under the staysail, which was all 6l«( could carry. The gale was now verjj severe, and oil, kerosene, and tar wer< poured on the waters with good effect. The wind then changed to the SLS.W./ and as no more sail could be spread, and as it was not possible to reach KaipsM under the staysail, Captain Daniel de-> cided to beach the vessel if possible, the being the only chance of sasdng the ye* sel and her crew. The scow was accor*. ingly headed for the sandy beach off ParkbuTst. : '•

Captain Daniel -was lashed to-the wheel, and the four hands went vp-iata the rigging. The Tramp shipped several seas, but got through/the surf and well up on to the beach \attaaii4 accident.

An hour later the captain and went ashore, and rigged up a tent 'wHM sails. They landed on the beach »t'H., pan. on Tuesday, and by nightfall had' obtained assistance from the settfeiß. The crew of the scow axe-still living ii the tent, and have their cat, pig, and dog with them. During the height of the gale the ship's boat bad to be cut away, as it-swung inboard and threaten* ed to damage the wheel and steering gear. The scow is very little damaged, and ifc is expected she wfll be refloated when the wind is favourable. Noae p£ the cargo-was jettisoned.
