CLYDE AND THE NEW LEVIATHAN.

(Received 8.17 son.) LONDON, June 28. The new Cunard liner Lusitania (33,000 tons) steamed from Clydebank, where she was built, to Greenock. The Clyde has now been dredged to a depth of 34ft at high-water. The Lnsitania drew 29*ft[It may be remembered that owing to the huge dimensions of the new Cunarders there was at first some doubt as to the possibility of constructing them on the Clyde. The local authorities became impressed with the fact that owing to the rapidly increasing dimensions of vessels it had become imperative for the river to be straightened, deepened, and widened in the vicinity of the various shipbuilding yards, in order to facilitate launching, and the successful passage of the Lnsitania has justified the hopes of a successful issue to these efforts. The Lusitania, which was launched in June of last year, is -..qual to the largest liner in the world, though her pre-eminence is threatened by strenuous efforts of the Americans and Germans to recover the record. A feature of the Lusitania is expected to be her high speed, which it is hoped will reach 25 knots an hour.]
