CYCLE AND MOTO.
i The first of the club week end I . took place this afterpoon. A sne . committee is being set up by the for the purpose of organising rung' i every Saturday and Sunday through - the season. a In and out of season one hears i • same complaints about our roads Lα I is tune the authorities did something improve them, if only to allay th* I I nuisance. For years' cycl'ste have L [ paying a small annual registration * ■ to the City Council, but none of n, money has so far been expended f, ; then- benefit. I know the total amous received troni cyclists is not very kr as comparatively few of them re«n.n» but if it was decided., for instant? f construct a cycle track from the dh to Onehunga they would gladly SU C? to considerably greater taxation than at present. lUa « A proper racing track is probably an urgently required as good roads, Zl , s owing to the lack of B suitable 11 , for training- that Auckland is so f-,1 1 , hind the other centres in regard to w riders, rhe cycle club made applicant I to the City Council to proiidiSßS . track in the laying ovii of Victoria Piri but nothing came of it. although it \v« pointed out. and the Council must 2 aware of the fact, that the cycle ran* are one of the chief, and in many d 2 . the greatest, attraction at sports eath erings. It is to be hoped that the club will renew its application again this season in the. form of a deputation from the combined cyclists in and around th« city, and, well, there is no knowing what will happen. At any rate thereis Z harm in trying the Council agahi n A ll i? c v faSt riders of the Auckland Cycle Club are in training for the A. A and C. C. sports to be held in the vt ' toria Pa.rk next month. . The bicycle accident in lAlberfc-streei last week recalls a simple means hv which the ridor can br«k his fall ir» such a case. The rider ihould keen » firm hold of the handle bar at all times. and when any part of t le . frame cor lapses it should be his u-st thought not to release his hold. Tie collapsed the machine will throw tfc rider for* ward, and if he keeps a firn hold of the handles will naturally mr a SOmer< sault, and land on the gro n d on jj lower part of the body in&ad of the head, as he would most liely other* wise do. The Onehunga Cycle Tourig Club js an energetic body, as referete to the following paragraph in the emmittee'a report presented at thi annul meet-in-* last week, will show:—"ftfajg the past season the club held irty club tours, principally one day trip but thg number also includes a four iy S ' trip to Rotorua and two days'tripa to Waiwera, Clevedon, and Kare ire, and members are to be congratulatl on the regular manner in which they intended the runb. Several moonlight* ms and one lantern run were also he." Thd club also held two road racf and a number of social functions. The opening run of the aemmgtf Cycle Club takes place on iturday, and in connection therewith numbcj? of competitions, will be helrl... The Auckland Automobile Associa* tion held a social gathering at ie Grand Hotel last -week for the purpe of welcoming back the president (Mr. G. Rhodes), who recently returm from t| trip to the Old Country £ aniaJso to bid good-bye to Mr E, BkeSs, who is transferring to Hasthgs •, take the management thereof the! local branch of Messrs. anclj Bockaert.
