THE CRIMINAL, L.IST. At the criminal sittings of the Supreme Court at Auckland, which commence on Monday, November 19, tliere are at present only some IS eases set down for trial, a«thongh it is possible there will be one or two more, added to this number between now ami tho opening of the Court. At the November sittings of last your, which were particularly heavy, no less than 41 prisoners stood on their trial, so that the positioa this year is a very favourable one. so far as it may be taken as au. indioatiou of crime. It should be noticed, also, that the number of criminal cases up for trial at the last August sessions was the phenomenally small one of 12, as against 32 for the corresponding sessions of last year. The following is the calendar to date: — Hone Heta, assault and robery, Te Awamutu; Annie Wilson Wllliainsoii, attempting to utter a forged cheque, Auckland; Timo Tane, breaking aud entering and theft, Rawenp; William ncnry Tihomats, theft, Pubokohe; John Black, forgery and uttering, Auckland; George VhilUps. indecent assault on a male (two charges), Auckland; Cod Marquis, perjury, Auckland; Walter Maxwell, breaches of the Bankruptcy Act, 1892. Auckland; Robert James Brydon, theft, Whang-arei; Henry Alfred Bowers, false pretences, Auckland; Valentine Atkinson, Indecent assault on a female, Auckland; John Cameron (alias Donnelly, alias Jaekobson). theft, Kawa Kawa (two charges); Herbert or Hubert Burke, assault, causing actual bodily harm, Auckland; Ilenare Tarawiiltl, assanlt and robbery. Auckland; Henry Alfred Bowers, false pretences, Auckland; John Anderson, killing a beast with intent to steal the carcase, Coi'omandcl.
