THE GARRISON BAXD.

A variety concert and dance were held in the Hibernian Hall last evening in aid of the funds being raised to send the Garrison Band to Christ church for the contest. There was a good attendance. The conceit programme, which was heartily approved, was contributed as follows:—l Songs, Misses E. and L. McDonald, B. McDonald, Messrs H. Makanini, E. McGurk, J. Lewis, W. Sherrett, F. Leslie and D. Healevs. The Garrison Band gave a number of selections, and Miss E. Xnlson danced the Highland Fling in costume, while Mr J. Collier gave a ventriloquial entertainment. The concert was followed by a dance in which a large number participated. The M.'s C. were Messrs. Tester and Camp. At the last meeting of the I'iako County Council, the Mayor of Te Aroha, with the councillors and town clerk, waited upon the Council regarding the proposed traffic bridge. The Mayor suggested that a small committee should bo appointed by the County Council to push on the erection of the bridge, acting with a similar committee from the Borough Council. The bridge was a matter of absolute necessity, and since a vote had appeared in aid on the Estimates, action must be taken at once to secure the completion of the work. After discussion each Council appointed a committee of throe with power to engage an engineer to advise as to site, description of bridge, cost. etc.. and to report to the councils. The members appointed to represent the county were the chairman (Mr T. Uavin), and Messrs Larncy and Ring.
