TRAWLING IN THE GULF.
THAMES FISHERMEN PROTEST. By- Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, this day. A meeting of local fishermen was held last night to protest against the proposed alteration of the trawling boundaries bringing them inside the Hauraki Gulf. Mr A. Bruce presided. The following resolutions were passed: '"The Thames fishermen leqiiest the Minister of Marine to maintain the present trawling boundaries for the protection of the fishing industry in the Hauraki Gulf, as such an alteration as that suggested will greatly decrease the supply of fish and deprive fishermen of their livelihood; that the Hon. James McGowan be thanked for his ready assistance towards preserving the fishing industry in the Hauraki Gulf, and requested to use his endeavours to maintain the present trawling boundary; that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Premier, requesting him to aid the fishermen of Thames in their efforts to prevent their livelihood being take from them." It was also decided to bring under the notice of the Minister of Marine the question of stalling in the Gulf. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Bruce and the Hon. J. McGowan for the interest they had taken in the matter.
