SHOTS IN A BACK YARD.

MR. LITTLE AT-Amim A few days ago Mr. C. Little, undertaker and cab proprietor of Hobsonstreet, had a messenger of death hovering aroiind his back door, closer than even an undertaker would desire. The messenger came in the shape of a small bullet, which whizzed past an ear of his son Frank. Frank, it appears, was working outside the back door of Mr. Little's workshop, when he heard the unmistakable music of a passing bullet just over his head. Almost at the same time there was a noise on a wall close by, and a.n. examination revealed a small bullet imbedded in the wood. Mr. little preserved the bullet, which, he says, is of a pea-rifle siz. Mr. Frank Little heard no report of a rifle at the time. Mr. C. Little, senior, however, heard the crack of the rifle, and bo also did several of the neighbours, and they, agree generally as to the quarter from which the sound came. Mr. little informed the police that he believed pearrfie practice has been proceeding in one of the back yards, and he attributes the bullet in question to this source. The owner of the back yard, when questioned by the police, said he did not possess a pea-rifle, but believed the shot was fired by some boys_ employed in a workshop. The boys, in their turn, are reported to have been reticent about the matter.

This is the stage at -which the matter now rests. Possibly something more may be heard after further investigations have been made.
