POLICE COURT.
THIS DAY. (Before Mr S. E. McCarthy, S.M.) -for Drunkards!. —Wftlliarn Jones and John Charles McAuley, the only drunkards charged, were each sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment. Jones had been convicted twice previously within six months, and the magistrate replied to his plea for leniency that he was a man with a bad character. It was also MeAuley's third conviction, and he was further charged with being found on licensed premises, viz., the Albert Hotel, Queen-street. Upon this information he was convicted and discharged. The Penalty of Pugilism.—Two young sailors named 2John Cole and George Moss, who had settled a dispute by. fighting each other on Queen-street wharf, admitted this breach of the peace and were fined f 1 each and costs. Maintenance.—Edward Maurice Burnhardt. who was convicted of failing to maintain his wife, was ordered to pay £1 1/ costs and 15/ per week towards his wife's maintenance. Prohibition Orders.—Prohibition orders for twelve months were issued against William , Webster and Sydney Smith, the applications being made by their wives.
