(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI. this day. Mr W. H. Phillips, first Mayor of Walhl, now residing near Auckland, paid a flying visit here yesterday afternoon. I understaod that Mr Phillips may return to reside In Wailil about March next. Members of the Waihi Federal Brass Band are practising •assiduously under the baton of Conductor Traasell In view of the contest next week in Auckland. A number of friends intend making the trip with the >band. Some of the local cricket enthusiasts lenve here on Thursday for Auckland to witness the Australia v. Auckland match. The sports under the auspices of the naihi Miners' Union are to be held on Miners' Union Day, March sth, and they promise to be a great success. Mr McMillian, the secretary, is leaving no stone unturned to guarantee a first-class programme. TUo principal event will be the Union Cup, £10, and the 130 yds Handicap Donations are coming in freely
