WAIUKU ITEMS.
(Kiaciia Our Own Correspondent.) WAIUKU, February 6. The new saleysrtis, now aftnost completed, used on Saturday for the first time by Messrs A. Buekland and Sons, were unanimously voted v vast and much-needed improvement on the old. The new yards are built ou the slope of the hill close to the old ones, tlie latter being turned into a large drafting yard. The building, etc., of the yards reflects great credit on Mr Austin and his men, who did the work for the Loan and Mercantile Co. and Messrs A. Buctland and Sons. The potato blight has now made Its appearance in all parts of this district, tomatoes also being attacked by it, although syringing where used has proved very effec,tive in preventing the disease. A younj? son of Mr A. Porter, home missionary of the Methodist connexion, broke his elbow through a fall from a gate last week. The bone was set by Dr. Clouston, and to all appearances he Is making good recovery.
