ELLIS ON TRIAL.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The trial of Ellis, charged with the murder of Collinson, at Te Awaite, was continued this morning. Detective Passells deposed that he searched for the bullet which killed Collinson, but could not find it. Alfred VViUiain Ross, a labourer, who was with Collinson on the day he was. killed, said he heard t-he report of a rifle, and saw Collinson lying on his left side. He did not see anyone else or any smoke. He thought the sound of the shot carae from over his head. Mr Bunny, for whom Collinson was sub-contractor, stated under cross-ex-amination that several persons in the neighbourhood had .£D3 riiles. The accused had no right on the property at the tune of the murder. Patrick McCarthy gave evidence of the act-used having uttered threats against Collinson.
