COUNCIL MEETING.
The ordinary meeting of the Council was then held. Cobkespondence.—The letters received were read and dealt with as follows :— Frcm F. J. Moss, M.H.R , stating that the Keaervo Amendment Bill had been read for tho first time, and requesting fuller information : Resolved that the letter be received, and tho information asked fur supplied. From the Town Clerk of Parnell, stating that the Streets Committee would bo willing to meet committee from Council to confider levels of Park street. Tho Mayor explained that tho committees had already met and settled the rnattor -. The letter was received. From the Borough Engineer, stating that tho cesspit near Artnitage's could not be constructed for tho sum fixed by the Council (40s) : RosolTed that tho Engineer be instructed to mako cortain temporary repairs. From Treasurer at Wellington, asking for two additional copies of Borough balancesheet : Resolved that same be forwarded by tho Town Clerk.—From Mr F. J. Yon Stunner, forwarding potition from New Zealand Railway Reform League, and requesting the Mayor to affix hi 9 signature, and then forward to Wellington : Received. Streets Committee.—Tho above committee recommonded the erection of gas lamps at various places in the borough. The Mayor oxplajned that tho annual cost of tho 14 lamps would bo about £70. After discussing the matter for 40 minutes, the report was adopted, one additional lamp being authorised. BoufvDAßY.—On the motion of the Mayor, it wae re?olved, "That the opinion of the solicitor of the Board be taken as. to where the boundary line is situated between the borough of Par^ell and Newmarket." Notices of Motion. Notices of motion were given by the Mayor as follows : - That a suitable firoboll be obtained, and the present ono Eold.
That a i ire Brigade be formed to be called the MowmarketFiro Brigade, That the number'of active members do not exceed 12. exclusive of captain. That applications be invited for poeition of Captain.
That tho Council pros'ide uniform fQr Brigade.
That a station bo erected on a suitable site.
That necessary appliances bo obtained. That Messrs Suitor, Edgerly, Whisker, Morgjn, Bishop, and tho Captain be. a committee to make necessary arrangements. This was all the business.
