(From our own Correspondent.) This day. Misers' Eights Inquiiy. According to a telegram this morning from the Advertiser's Wellington correspondent, the surreptitious miners' rights matter has been narrowed down to Mess.rs Brissenden and James Mackay, jun. Mr Mackay is here busy squaring accounts with the natives and Europeans, by whom his visit has long been looked forwardto with interest. He proceeds to Mackay town to-day on a similar errand in a specially chartered steamer, and on Tuesday leaves for Wellington to look after his own interest. Agricultural Leases at Ohinemuri. A meeting of Mackaytown residents is to be held to-day on the spot, to discuss the leasing of agricultural land area regulations. Some sharpers want increased areas, but, as Sir George Grey says, the good lands are scarce, and it is desirable to give all a show instead of a few speculators merely. The charges are admitted, very justly, to be too high. State of Roads. _ The Tairua road wants immediate attention, as its terrible condition is a great drawback to prospecting at an important time. The Read between Paeroa and Mackaytown is to be completed at once by Mr. Palmer, who has gone up for the purpose this week. The present Waitekauri track has been condemned by the engineer. Mining News The Bright Smile retorting to-day at the old battery yielded 142 ozs. The average is very fair. The Only Chance hes 251bs spocimens of fair quality. liich Show in the Cure. The Cure rich show in both r.-efp, and has broke through to the main level to-day on No 4. Tho City of London and Queen of May retorting a;e postponed till Monday. Miaremarket.
