THE PROGRESS OF WORKS
[By Telegraph _rom Grhamstown.}
TAIRTJA
This day. The Tairua Company continue to have a good show. The Cornstock have made a good discovery to the north of The Brothers claim, and the latter have a magnificent show of gold in a bookseller's window here from the reef.
The Cornstock have washed a couple of erains to the dish.
A great deal of preliminary work is being done in the claim near the Prospectors-^-such as trenching and prospecting. The Ajax secured the reef yesterday in the low drive. The slip at the mouth of the drive has caused some trouble. The thickness of the reef has not yet been ascertained, but the workings above show a large body of stone. The Eureka portion of ground also shews good prospects. Several veins have been found in the N.W. corner of the Triangle claim showing gold. A drive is being started. The Crown has not got the reef by trenching, and has started to drive in the spur. It ought to get the course of the Ajax reef very soon.
The National did not get the Ajax reef, as reported. AooicLent to Mr Walter Williamson-
Mr Walter Williamson was benighted, and the intense cold nearly killed him. He was found next morning very feeble, and unable to articulate, and put to bed. He is doin<* well.
Another horse has been killed on the track.
