AS usual,

Elizabeth Hart, Arthur Dronsfield, Elizabeth Kennedy, Annie Sweet, alias Benson, each admitted being drunk last night, and were fined as usual.

OBSTRUCTING THE POLICE,

Denis Coleman appeared to give an account of his extraordinary conduct in inttfering with Constable Allen while that zealous officer was discharging hia onerous duties.

He pleaded guilty, and was sent to prison for 14 days.

A ROWDY SAILOR.

John Shepherd, a seaman, in addition to being charged with drunkeness, was also accused of seriously damaging the smart uniform hat of Constable O'Reiiiy last night. The piisoner was fined 20s and cos.3 for his spree, with the alternative of 48 hours imprisonment, and for hio damage to the uniform, was ordered to prison for 7 days.

PETTY THIKVES. —TWO NICK BOYS

Charles Maddigan and James Maddigan were confronted with the magistrates on a charge of prigging firewood from the premises of Edward Hodg3o_, in Mechanics' Bay, on the 22nd July. Sergt.-Major Pardy said the prisoners had been suspected for some time, and the prosecutor, who had mis .ed a deal of firewood, at length watched his yard, and saw the youngsters take the wood. Tho mother here rushed forward, and began a wild denial of any knowledge of the theft.

Sergt.-Major Pardy said the mother mutt have known of the child i en's practices.

Their Wor_thip3 gave the children and the mother a good talking to, and dismissed the charge in consideration of the age of the offenders.

A PAIR OF GIRLS TO MATCH

Annie Armstrong and Catherine Johnston vvere "up" for stealing 4_ from the till of Mr. Brinsden, of Wclleslcy-street.

The girls, who were bits of thinrs of nine and eleven, seemed quite insensible to their position, and laughed and talked in the dock in the most unconcerned manner.

On being askeel if they took the money, Johnstone said—-" Yes, Mr. Beckham, I took 45." The other said "I took Bi."

Sergt.-Major Pardy said no less than nine cases had been found out against the same girls. The father of the girl Jbhnsto_e had deserted the mother and gone to Australia. The mother wag a confirmed prostitute, and took no care of the child. In the case of the girl Armstrong the parents were respectable, but had Jo3t all control over the child, who was unmanageable. The girl Johnstone was sent for three years to the Industrial Home, aud the girl Armstrong was sent to St. Mail's Orphanage for the same time. This was all the business.
