TIMARU.
(Per Press Telegram Agency.) This day. Provincial Abolition. A public meeting was held last night re the abolition of the provinces. About 000 were present,and great enthusiasm was shown %, The following resolution was carried unanimously :— "That in the opinion of this meeting it is desirable that the system of Provincial Government be forthwith abolished throughout _>" ew Zealand ; that a system of local government be established which will endow each district, whether town or ruial, with a fair proportion of the revenue, contributed by its inhab-tants." That a petition embodying this foregoiDg resolution be drawn up and circulated for signatures, to be forwarded to the Hon. E. W. Stafford for presentation to the General Assembly. Discussion was invited, but no one spoke against the resolutions. The meeting was quiet and unanimous.
