AN INCIDENT OF THE GALE.
A PERILOUS VOYaCE AND NARROW ESCAPE,
Two men, the one a Frenchman and the other a Dutchman on Monday the s'.h inst., started in a flat bottomed clingy frota the Wade to come up to Auckland with their produce for the market. They -were blown off when trying to round the North Head and were carried before the gale past Brown's Island into the Eastern passage. Here there was a tremendous chopping sea on, and about half a mile from Motutapu the boat was capsized, and both the occupants left floundering in the water. They managed to get hold of the boat which floated, aad held on till the set of the sea and wind earned them ashore not far from Mt'^iv. Roed's cottage. Here they were hospitably entertained and supplied with restoratives, as they were nearly dead with tho wet onS cold. They have since returned home again. All their cargo consisting of 33 dozen of egga besides other dairy produce was lost. They may, however consider themselves lucky to have escaped with their lives. The Dutchman is well-known as the ferryman at the W&de river.
