(From onr own Correspondent.) This day. , Walking Epidemic. A walking epidemic has apparently broken out here. Austin, on behalf of young Scott, accepted Edwards' challenge to walk him 7 miles against time for £50 a-side ; and Fred. Wain, a local ped. bet level £50 he will walk 100 miles within 24 hours. Mr Macandrew. Mr Macandrew, M.H.K., addresses his constituents at Port Chalmers to-morrow. Supreme Court The matter of the Heriot hundred and the application of commitment of Donald Reid, and Bastings and H. Clark occupied the Supreme Court all yesterday and to-day. Mr Reid, in his affidavit says :— " I believed when I voted for the said resolution, and still believe, that the Chief Commissioner had no authority to interfere with district lands officers. I was advised that were the said officers to have refused to receive the said application, they would have laid themselves open to grievous litigations and actions for damages." Disgraceful Scene between the Rival Mayors. A Lawrence telegram to the Star says : — " At the Town Council Revision Court, yesterday, Major Matthew Hay and C. R. Fraers, candidates for the Mayoralty, quarrelled. The Mayor took off his coat and threatened mortal combat, using language more forcible than choice. The scene was thoroughly disgraceful, and a fight was only prevented by the intervention of Councillors. Terrific Storms. There have been terrific storms throughout the gold fields, and great damage done.
